A Diamond’s Best Kept Secret: The Fifth “C” – Certification

How can I be confident with my diamond purchase?

Every diamond is unique and the only way for you to be absolutely sure of the quality of your diamond is to make sure your diamond comes with a certification. A certification is an independent objective quality report issued by an outside laboratory and includes the exact measurements and proportions of your diamond as well as the color, clarity and carat weight. Each certification has its own number, the date which it was analyzed and a plotting of the diamond which shows the inclusions in the diamonds. The two leading labs in the world that offer these unbiased certifications are the E.G.L. (European Gemological Laboratory) and the G.I.A. (Gemological Institute of America).

The 10 Biggest Diamond Buying Mistakes

MISTAKE #1: ASSUMPTIONS ON DIAMOND QUALITIES. Making the assumption that all diamonds of the same color and clarity are equal is a common misconception. How a diamond is cut determines the beauty and brilliance of a diamond. Just because the diamond possesses a high color and clarity grade it won’t guarantee beauty. Poor cutting can render the diamond lifeless and dull. Careful selection and comparisons are necessary to help you to select the perfect diamond for you.

That’s where our associates can educate you to the differences and help balance out the proportions, color, clarity, and size with budgetary considerations. Remember that cutting alone can make a difference by as much as a 50% in price for a specific color and clarity grade.
